The French are not only known for their work on the smallsword, they also left us a sizable amount of material on using the “espadon” and the “contre-pointe”, instructing people in their methods not only in their home country, but as far as America or Japan. This workshop will present an overview of the history of the practice of French saber, starting with the earliest description from the early 18th century, through the time of Napoleon up to the military schools of “la Belle époque”.
