In addition to being the earliest weapons manual in the world, I.33 also contains the lengthiest extant medieval treatise on how to fight with sword and shield. This workshop will cover some of the basics of I.33’s sword & buckler system, emphasizing actions from the bind. Students should come away from the workshop with a clear understanding how stance and the positioning of the buckler make a critical difference in remaining safe from the strikes of one’s opponent.
