Fiore’s Fior di Battaliga has a wealth of knowledge for scholars of martial arts. Fortunately, it was written to have an excellent structure. With that in mind, this class will be on the functional elements of Fiore’s sword in two hands using the structure from the introduction of the Novati/PD manuscript: largo crossings, the Peasant’s Strike (including the exchange and break of thrusts), punta falsa, the stretto crossing, pommel strikes, throws by the neck, arm wraps, disarms and the counter to all stretto techniques. Participants will benefit most from having their full sparring gear as the purpose of the class is to learn and practice the techniques with intent.
